Prof. Noor Ahmad Baba has had a distinguishing academic career.  After his initial Education in Kashmir, Prof Baba did his masters from the Centre for Political Studies  at the School of Social Sciences of Jawaharlal Nehru University( JNU) one of India's premier Universities, New Delhi. He also had his M.Phil. and Ph.D. from the School of International Studies in the  same university. Subsequently he also completed an Advance Level  International  Diploma on Peace and Conflict Research from Uppsala University, Sweden. As a Fulbright scholar he also did an extensive course on the American Politics and Political Thought from the University of Maschucetes, USA. He has participated in a host of seminars and conferences at national and international levels. He has also been associated, as member, advisor and expert, with various academic and research institutes, organizations and universities. He has been Visiting Professor in a number of Universities and Institutions that include Indian Institute of Advance Studies, (Simla) , (2009); King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, (2008); King Abdul Aziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (2008). In addition he was a Fulbright Scholar at University of Massachusetts (2005) and visiting scholar to various other academic institutions within and outside the country. Dr. Baba has extensively travelled in Europe, America, East, South & West   Asian regions for research, lectures, seminar participation and for other academic purposes.        In this regard he has so far visited Hong Kong, China, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia. Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, France, Netherlands, Belgium, United Kingdom, Ireland, Cypress  and United States of America.

From March 1982  to April 2015 he remained on the faculty of the University of Kashmir for   teaching Political Science at Masters level and guiding research scholars for M. Phil and Ph.D. Thus during his more than three decades long relationship with university Prof. Baba  held a number senior Academic and Administrative positions. 

As a professor with about 17 years standing he has held several important academic and administrative positions in the university that include the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences (2008-2011) and Head, Department of Political Sciences for a record period of 15 years  and Chairman , Centre for Sheikh-ul-Alam Studies (2010-11). In May 2015 he has joined the Central University of Kashmir to oversee the growth and academic development of the Department of Politics and Governance  established in that university

Prof. Baba has written extensively on a range of issues dealing with the South and West Asia, including Kashmir and the Indian Politics. His book, Organization of Islamic Conference: Theory and Practice of Pan-Islamic Cooperation. (1994), has been simultaneously published in several countries by internationally prominent publishers that includes Oxford University Press, New York & Karachi. This was a pioneering work on the subject. The book was extensively reviewed both locally and internationally, in which it is highly appreciated, cited and acclaimed and is being placed as a reference in many important universities internationally.

His other writings that include a large number of research papers published in accredited Journals and edited volumes both nationally and internationally have won him international  level recognition and acclaim. Some of his writings are prescribed as essential reading on the West Asian and Muslim Affairs in some of the prestigious universities of the world.

He began with an interest in Middle Eastern and Muslim World affairs. His present focus of research is Kashmir and South Asian Affairs with a peace research perspective. However, he continues his interest in Comparative Politics, Political Theory, Muslim and West Asian Affairs both for teaching and research.
