Prof. Mohd Altaf Hussain Ahangar was born on 14th March 1952. He graduated in Science from the University of Kashmir and obtained LL.B, LL.M and PhD degrees from Aligarh Muslim University. During the early days of his profession, his main focus was comparative family law, but with time he focussed on several subjects including Tort Law, Equity & Trust and Private International Law. He has a cumulative teaching experience of 39 years at University of Kashmir, University of Maiduguri [Nigeria], International Islamic University Malaysia and Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, Brunei Darussalam. He has authored four books and 65 research papers. Two books were published in Germany and along with the third book are being sold by Amazon.Com whereas Sweet & Maxwell, Malaysia have published the fourth book. The journals which have published his articles include American Journal of Islamic Social Sciences [AJISS], Arab Law Quarterly,  The Law Review, International & Foreign Law Community, Lexis Nexis, Comparative Law Yearbook of International Business”, Netherlands, Vindobono Journal of International Commercial Law and Arbitration, [Australia], Malayan Law Journal [Malaysia], Journal of Indian Law Institute, and Islamic & Comparative Law Quarterly [India]. Besides, he has written extensively on legal thought of Dr Iqbal with the result he has got five publications on Iqbal in  Iqbal ReviewPakistan. Western scholars have acclaimed some of his publications. He was director of the International Conference on Law and Social Obligations jointly organised by International Islamic University Malaysia and the University of Kashmir. He is well known for his mastery over Islamic law of succession. He has presented fifty-one research papers in America, Austria, Australia, Brunei, Canada, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, Turkey and Vietnam on legal issues related to his areas of specialisation. He is a member of many professional bodies including Centre for International Legal Studies, Austria and All India Family Law Teachers Association.
