About: Directorate of Information Technology & Support System (DITSS)
Introduction:
A Comprehensive Information Technology (IT) policy has been framed by the Central University of Kashmir for implementation of IT enabled services in the University. The University has established Directorate of Information Technology & Support System (DITSS) that manages all IT enabled services and is in the process of developing the State-Of-Art IT infrastructure in the University.
To effectively manage and monitor the IT related services, the University has commissioned its own Data Centre at its Tulmulla Main campus. The Data Centre houses modern IT equipments related to Network, power supply, environmental control and security.
Besides providing a comprehensive and effective ICT support to the university, Directorate of ITSS coordinates following services in the University:
- Internet (Wi-Fi and LAN) facilities for Students, Teaching and Administrative Staff. Currently around 2000 users are registered for the service.
- Other network related services like IP Telephony, CCTVs, AD Server, AV Server, etc.
- Library support & Automation.
- Management of Browsing centres.
- University website management. (The website content management is done on daily basis)
- Video Conferencing Support: Both Sofware basis as well as Hardware basis
- e-Tendering on local and National Portals
- Repair & Maintenance of IT equipment & peripherals
- University Admission Portal /Coordination & support for Admissions under CUKAT (Central University)
- Procuremnt of essential Software
- University Domain Email
- University Payments Gateway
- University Recruitment Portal
E-Governance:
The Directorate of Information Technology & Support System (DITSS) is currently implementing the E-Governance (Integrated University Management System) for complete automation of university related functions. Currently two main Modules viz Academics Module and Purchase, Inventory and Stores Management System (PIMS) have been implemented in the University. Development on others modules is currently underway.
DITSS has also developed the following Student/Administration related services in the University:
- Online results,
- Online Admissions,
- Online Hostel Management,
- Asset/Inventory Management,
- Online Continuous Internal Assessment,
- Online Teacher Assessment by students,
- Employee Details Application,
- Application of Security Cell,
- Transport Management Application
Facility Management Sytem:
The University has engaged a full fledged Facility Management System (FMS) team for management, troubleshooting, upgradation & monitoring of all the IT, Network & Internet related Infrastructute & Services in the University. The job profile fo the team is robust and the team is responsible for handling all the IT, Network & Internet related service calls in the University. The FMS team also manages the University Data Centre.
Other IT projects:
The Directorate of Information Technology & Support System (DITSS) is in the process of implementing major IT related projects in the University including the following:
- Development of GIGW Website is currently underway. The Beta version of the Website shall be released soon.
- Campus Connect Network project of MHRD to provide state-of-art Wi-Fi services to students, Teaching and Administrative staff.
- Upgradation & Classification of University Data Centre as Tier-I Data Centre
- Enhancement of Inter-campus network connectivity and Upgradation of Internet bandwidth.
- Establishment of IT, Network & Internet Infrastructure at Ganderbal Campuses
