INSTITUTIONAL DISTINCTIVENESS OF CENTRAL UNIVERSITY OF KASHMIR
The Central University of Kashmir (CUK) was established in 2009 as a Pace Setting University. CUK was established by the Act of Parliament and started its journey from Hyderpora Srinagar. The University started its academic activities in 2010 when 75 students were admitted in 03programmes (MBA, M.Sc. IT & M.A. English). For teaching learning process, the university hired rented accommodations first in Sonwar, Magarmal Bagh, Zainakote to Nowgam and in 2018 the university has been shifted to Ganderbal in phased manner. Despite mammoth challenges, it is laudable that the enrolment of CUK has touched 3500 including almost 300 research scholars and the number of programs has also gone up from 03 in 2010 to 32. The best brains of the country in the form of faculty started to join the university since 2012 on substantive basis. The university has its own Design and Innovation Centre (DIC) and its main focus is to promote local crafts on scientific lines. CUK was able to get NAAC accreditation in 2017 with B++ grade. In 2018, the university was in a position to hold its first convocation.

MISSION
To contribute to the educational, cultural, economic and social advancement of people by providing high quality educational programs leading to Bachelors, Masters, Professional and Doctorate Degrees as well as to address the cultural, economic, educational, environmental, health and social needs of the region and nation at large.
OBJECTIVES
The Central University of Kashmir in pursuit of the objectives stipulated in the Central Universities Act of 2009 endeavors:
- To disseminate and advance Knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning as the University may deem fit;
- To make special provisions for integrated courses in Humanities, Social Sciences, Science and Technology in its educational programs;
- To take appropriate measures for promoting innovations in teaching learning process and interdisciplinary studies and research;
- To educate and train manpower for the development of the country;
- To establish linkages with industries for the promotion of science and technology; and to pay special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people, their intellectual, academic and cultural development.
INSTITUTIONAL DISTINCTIVENESS
Following features of CUK has made this university a leading higher education institution of the region adhering to its vision, priority, and thrust.
- The faculty of the university represents the entire India. Teachers from different parts of the country have been appointed and are serving the CUK.
- CUK is the only university throughout the Country that offers a course on Criminal Justice System.
- CUK is only one of the few universities of the country that offers a 05-year integrated PG program in Mathematics and also offers a 2-year PG program in the same Discipline.
- CUK is one among the only two Central Universities of the country to offer a PG Program in Comparative Religion. Keeping in view the religious diversity of the country this program helps to build unity in diversity.
- The university has established a University-Industry Interface Cell to develop a strong bond and connect with the industrial sector.
- The Central University of Kashmir has established the Centre for Capacity Development of Administrative Staff (CCDAS). The main objective of CCDAS is to impart technical and administrative training and capacity building to the administrative staff of the University (both substantive and contractual) for their overall growth and development.
- CUK has included experts from all walks of life in various statutory bodies. They offer their valuable suggestions which give an inclusive touch in designing the curriculum as per the aspirations of modern society.
- The Central University of Kashmir is organizing Post End Semester Examination Workshops twice a year. Its main objective is to identify the gaps in the examination and evaluation mechanism of CUK. So far, 08 such workshops have been conducted which has helped in building a robust examination evaluation process in the varsity.
