Report of the TWO-DAY NATIONAL SEMINAR ON QUALITY CONCERNS IN HIGHER EDUCATION (10th & 11th September, 2015)

Department of Education holds symposium on National Education Day: Srinagar, Nov 11, 2014: Department of Education, Central University of Kashmir (CUK)  observed National Education Day/ birth anniversary of  first Education Minister of Independent India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. CUK's officiating Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din inaugurated the function. Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Dean School of Education, Prof. N A Nadeem, Dean School of Social Sciences, Prof. G M Bhat, Controller of Examination, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, Chief Librarian, Mr. Reyaz Rufai, Head of Department Law, Prof. Sheikh Showkat and Associate Prof. Department of Management Studies, Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka were also present on the occasion. Dr. Muhammad Syed conducted the proceedings.  26 students from various departments participated in the symposium. Mr. Sharoz Khushal of the Department of Management Studies, bagged the top slot and won a cash prize of Rs 3000 while as Ms. Insha Farid of the Convergent Journalism and Ms. Saba Maqbool of the Department of Economics shared the second and third prize.

 
 
 
Central University of Kashmir (CUK) is celebrated International Students' Day on November 17, 2014. In this event, a students' discussion on "Quality Education for All" and an essay competition on "Creating Employment Opportunities through Higher Education" also organised at Dept. of Education, CUK. Officiating Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din inaugurated the event. Dean School of Education and Programme Coordinator, Prof. N A Nadeem, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Controller of Examinations, Dr. N A Gilkar, Head Department of Tourism Studies, Prof. S Fayyaz, Students Welfare Officer, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka and Department of Convergent Journalism, Coordinator, Mr. Asif Khan were among others present on the occasion. In the group discussion, Vijay Hitaishi of Management Studies bagged the top slot while as Saba Maqbool and Showkat Ahmad Dar of Economics Department got the second and third prize. In the essay competition, Pervez Ahmad Dar from Education Department and Deeba Rukhsan shared the Ist prize while as Adil Amin Lone from Urdu department won the third prize. Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din distributed cash prizes among the winners. Srinagar, May 7: On the eve of the birthday of Rabindra Nath Tagore, the Department of Education, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organised a one-day seminar at its Zainakote academic block on Wednesday. All the faculty members of the Department of Education and students of 2nd semester and 4th semester participated in the event. The seminar started with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Sameer Ahmad, 2nd semester student, followed by welcome address by Dinesh Kumar. Dean and Head, School of Education, Prof. N.A. Nadeem in his inaugural address highlighted the contribution of Tagore in the field of education and its relevance to modern system of Indian Education. He also threw light on the various developmental programmes and future plans of the School of Education. Dr. Mohammad Sayeed, Rashim Wadhwah and Ismail Thamarasseri presented their papers in which they highlighted the important contributions made by Tagore in blending eastern and western philosophies. During the seminar, it was unanimously felt that Tagore’s theory of education needs to be practised in a holistic manner in the contemporary Indian Education system. Ulfat Ali, 2nd semester student conducted the proceedings and, Khair-U-Nisa, 4th semester student, presented the vote of thanks.

 


Visit to Institute of Mental Health And Neuro-Sciences, Kashmir (IMHANS): Srinagar, May 26: Students of M.A. Education of Central University of Kashmir, visited IMHANS, Kashmir. Since the department runs course on Mental Hygiene, an academically oriented visit to IMHANS was arranged.  This visit provided students an opportunity  to get an experiential understanding of mental health and illnesses. The students had a interaction with psychiatrists, psychologists and other working professionals of the institution. Dr. Sadaqat Rahman Drabu, Associate Professor and Consultant Clinical Psychologist gave a lecture to students in which she informed students about working of the hospital, patient care, stigma about  mental illnesses and a positive change in outlook towards mentally ill individuals.  Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Consultant Psychiatrist highlighted those illnesses which are peculiar to Kashmir society in his presentation. Dr. Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Consultant Clinical Psychologist introduced students to various Psychological tests and techniques of psychotherapy.  Nasir Mohammad Bhat  and Reyaz Ahmed Wani, Assistant Professors, Department of Education, CUK accompanied the students.
