CUK's DSW holds workshop on IT
Srinagar, July 4: The Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW) Central University of Kashmir (CUK) in collaboration with Elance Technologies Pvt Ltd organised an IT workshop in connection with Digital India campaign, at Nowgam-I academic block of the varsity here Monday.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Dean School of Education, Prof. N A Nadeem, DSW Director, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka, Chief Warden, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Shah, CEO Elance Technologies, Er. Mir Abrar, faculty members and students were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir asked the students to remain abreast with the recent technological advancements. “The technology is changing at a very rapid pace and one should remain updated with all the advancements to remain in the race,” Prof. Mehraj ud Din said, adding that IT is touching every sphere and way of life now.

Quoting the examples of propagation of rumors and false news on social networking sites, he said the technology should only be used for constructive purposes and not misused.

Prof. Mehraj ud Din also enumerated several steps taken by the varsity in providing IT enabled services to the students, faculty members and other staff and assured that these services would be further strengthened in near future.

Registrar, Prof. Muhammad Afzal Zargar, while addressing the gathering said that technology has revolutionized every aspect of life. “Virtual classrooms, video-conferencing, interactive meetings through skype and other sites have become order of the day in almost all the educational institutions, multinational companies and government run departments and it has been possible only due to the recent advancements in the field of communication and information technology,” Prof. Zargar said, adding that in coming years, the advancements will further shrink the manmade boundaries and people to people contact would be much more easier and faster.

DSW Director, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka in his welcome address, spelled out the main aim and objectives of holding the workshop. He said the DSW endeavours holistic development of all the students and the prime objective of holding the workshop was to sensitize the students about the recent advancements in technology.  He said the students were informed about the recent software developed by the software developers.  Dr. Nikka said that CEO Elance Technologies Er. Mir Abrar, Assistant Professor NIT Srinagar, Ms Neelam Khan, Assistant Professor, IUST, Mr. Bilal, EAO Services, Mr. Sheikh Kashif, HK Events and Mr. Aamir Amin,  were the resource persons during the programme.

Assistant Professor, Department of Tourism Studies, Mr. Ashiq Hussain Najar conducted the programme proceedings.
