CUK's Law department holds symposium
Srinagar, May 28: The department of Law, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today organised a symposium “Women empowerment: Myth or Reality” at varsity’s Nowgam-I academic block
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Head of Law Department, Dr. Sheikh Showkat, Deans of other schools, faculty members, and students were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said that women empowerment means that they should have the ability to think freely and express themselves. “Empowerment of women comes from acquiring knowledge and becoming self-reliant,” he said adding that Islam has given highest status to the women. He, however, added that the women should understand their limitations and thus work and act accordingly. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said that without women, a family and a society can’t exist.
Head of Law Department, Dr. Sheikh Showkat, while addressing the gathering said that the department would hold more programmes on women empowerment in near future and would discuss the issues and problems confronting the women at work places and homes.
Some of the students of the department later spoke about the topic and shared their views about the issue.
Mrs Gulafroz Jan conducted the programme proceedings while as Assistant Professors in Law and English departments, Ms. Ishrat Bashir and Mr. Hilal Ahmad were the adjudicators.
