CUK's DSW holds lectures on role of physical fitness in mental dev
Srinagar, June 13: The Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW) of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organised a two lecture series on “role of physical exercise in mental development” and “physical fitness for a disciplined life,” for its administrative staff at Nowgam-II block and faculty and students of the integratedB.Sc-M.Sc programmes at Sonwar academic block on June 10 and 11 respectively.

The lectures were delivered by Dr. D L Choudhary, an expert from the Central University of Jammu (CUJ). 

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Controller of Examinations, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar and DSW Director, Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka were also present.

Addressing the staffers, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, highlighted the importance of physical exercise and stress management for the overall wellbeing, growth and development of individuals. He enumerated several measures taken by the varsity for de-stressing the faculty, administrative staff and students, adding that the DSW recently held a rafting vent in Wusun Ganderbal and a T-20 cricket tournament for the students of the university. The Vice-Chancellor said that despite several constraints, the university was making every effort to involve the students in co-curricular activities.  

Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, while addressing the gathering said, the main objective of organizing the lecture was to sensitize the administrative staff, faculty and students about the ways and means to de-stress oneself. The varsity, Prof. Zargar said, would continue to hold such activities which would prove beneficial to all the stakeholders in the university.

During his lectures, Dr. D L Choudhary, asked the participants to perform physical exercises constantly and take healthy, but balanced diet. He said that there has been manifold increase in lifestyle diseases including diabetes mellitus, hypertension and obesity. “These diseases are killing people across the world and only way to tackle them is to live a healthy and peaceful life,” he said adding that work stress should also be tackled by performing exercises and playing different outdoor games. Dr. D L Choudhary also asked the participants to avoid mental stress and have a positive attitude towards the life and work.

Controller of Examinations, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, proposed the vote of thanks and described the lecture as enlightening while as Director, DSW, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka conducted the programme proceedings.

Dr. D L Choudhary also addressed the students and faculty of the integrated B.Sc-M.Sc programmes at Sonwar academic block and deliberated on the same topics. The lectures were followed by question answer sessions.
