Orientation, welcome replaces ragging in CUK
Srinagar, Sept 3: The School of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organized a three-day orientation programme for the new comers.
The programme comprised series of lectures and interaction between the new comers to the Department and the University officials. The programme came to an end with the concluding speech of Prof. Mehraj-Ud-Din Mir, officiating Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Appreciating the initiative of the School of Legal Studies, Prof. Mehraj-Ud-Din said that throughout his long academic career and visits to several universities, he has yet to experience such a programme. He further remarked that the students are usually subjected to harassment and ragging on their joining the new institution.
Over here instead of harassing, the seniors facilitated their admission formalities and the department organized an orientation programme for them.
Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din in his address to the students stressed upon a number of issues related to the student community especially students of Law. He emphasized upon the diversified scope of law course. He further stated that a degree like law makes students self-sufficient and vigilant. The Officiating Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din stressed upon the students that they should work diligently to make themselves a useful part of the Society.
Apart from the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Prof. M.A. Zargar too had an interaction with the students. Prof. Zargar gave a comprehensive lecture on the working of the Central University of Kashmir and the facilities that are made available to the students. He assured them that the University will leave no stone unturned to make their stay in the Campus as comfortable as possible. He pointed out that the University will strive to uphold the excellent academic standards.
Controller of Examination, Dr. N A Gilkar, gave the students a brief introduction regarding the examination pattern followed by the University.
Professor Sheikh Showkat Hussain, Head, School of Legal Studies, gave a detailed introduction of the School. He dwelt on various aspects of the B.A LL.B course and emphasized that the School is keen to maintain high academic standards and would not embark upon an expansive exercise bereft of quality.
General Secretary of Law Society, Mr. Arooj Mushtaq facilitated the whole event and ensured that it turns out to be a successful event.
