CUK's Urdu deptt holds Abdul Qadir Sarwari Memorial Extension lecture
Srinagar, May 19: The department of Urdu, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today organised Abdul Qadir Sarwari Memorial Extension lecture at Nowgam-II academic block of the varsity here.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, former Head Department of Urdu, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, Prof. Qazi Ubaid ur Rahman Hashmi, Dean School of Languages, Prof. M Aslam, Dean School of Social Sciences, Prof. G M Bhat, Head department of Urdu, University of Kashmir, Prof. Mansoor Ahmad Mansoor, Coordinator, Urdu Department, Prof. Nazir A Malik, DSW Director, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka, faculty members and students of the departments and Urdu and Religious Studies, attended the lecture, which was held in association with National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL).

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir asked the students to follow the footsteps of Abdul Qadir Sarwari. He assured the faculty and the students that the varsity would provide all support and cooperation in their future programmes and activities. Prof. Mehraj ud Din asked the department to hold a Na’at competition in near future.  

Former Head Department of Urdu, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, Prof. Qazi Ubaid ur Rahman Hashmi, deliberated on the topic “Contribution of Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri in Urdu Ghazal.” He critically analyzed the poetry of Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri and hailed his contribution of Urdu literature in Kashmir.

Dean School of Languages, Prof. M Aslam, gave a detailed account about the Urdu department functioning and hoped that the department would emerge as a model department.

Coordinator, Urdu Department, Prof. Nazir A Malik, introduced the subject theme and highlighted the contribution of Abdul Qadir Sarwari in Urdu and Persian literature, during his (Sarwari’s) stay in Kashmir.

Later, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir also released the Urdu department’s Newsletter “Raftaar” on the occasion.
