Submit proposals to ICSSR for receiving financial support: CUK VC to scholars
Workshop on research methodology ends at CUK
Srinagar, Mar 23: Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir today asked the scholars to submit their detailed research proposals with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and other funding agencies for receiving the financial support for their research.

“The researchers should apply for grants from the ICSSR and other concerned agencies in order to get financial support for conducting their research,” Prof. Mehraj ud Din said while addressing the valediction function of the 10-days training programme on Research Methodology in Social Sciences, organised by the Department of Economics and sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) at Nowgam-I academic block of the University.

Joint Secretary MHRD, Dr. S S Sandhu, Prof. Ravi Srivastava of JNU, Prof. Imran Saleem of AMU, Aligarh and Dr. Upendra Chaudhury, Director, ICSSR, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Deans of various Shools, Heads and Coordinators of different departments, Director DSW, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka, faculty members and students were also present on the occasion.

Prof. Mehraj ud Din expressed happiness over the participation of scholars from across the country in the workshop. He said the university has established a full-fledged Department of Research and Development (DRD) to ensure that quality research is undertaken in the varsity. Prof. Mehraj ud Din said the university has also started a programme wherein proposals are sought from the young faculty members to undertake research and in this regard some seed money has also been provided to them for the same. He said the university is striving hard to provide quality teaching to the students and undertake research, which would be beneficial for the society at large. “Despite several limitations, the faculty has been able to provide quality teaching to the students and the university has achieved a distinction of conducting examination of students on time despite floods in September 2014,” he said.

CUK VC said the work on the Pre Engineered Buildings of the university at its designated campus at Ganderbal is going on and the varsity would shift its academic activities to the permanent campus in coming months.

Joint Secretary MHRD, Dr. S S Sandhu, while addressing the gathering extended full support and cooperation to the Vice-Chancellor in his endeavour to make the university an institution par excellence. “The MHRD will extend every possible support to the Vice-Chancellor in the establishment of the varsity at Ganderbal and making it beautiful academically and research wise,” Dr. Sandhu said.

Prof. Ravi Srivastava while speaking on the occasion said that such workshops should be conducted more frequently in order to aware the scholars about different research methodologies adopted  for conducting of research. He also underscored the need of conducting more subject specific capacity building programmes for teachers and scholars. Prof. Ravi Srivastava also underscored the need of strengthening the base of Social Science research. “The researchers through their papers should be able to contribute towards the policy making at global level,” he added.

Prof. Imran Saleem of AMU, Aligarh and Dr. Upendra Chaudhury, Director, ICSSR, Registrar while addressing the gathering also urged the scholars to submit their proposals to ICSSR for receiving fundings to their research. They also emphasised the need of undertaking quality research.

Dean School of Social Sciences, Prof. G M Bhat said 30 participants (Ph.D scholars) were selected from the universities including AMU, JMI, Pondicherry University, Hyderabad Central University, MANUU, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Central University of Rajasthan, University of Kashmir, IUST Awantipora for participation in the workshop. He said the department of Economics has also started research programme from this academic session.
