Launches plantation drive in Ganderbal campus
Ganderbal, Apr 4: Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mehraj-ud-Din today exhorted upon the students to play a key role in the conservation of environment and development of upcoming University campus here.
Addressing the students after launching plantation drive at the designated CUK campus here, Prof Mehraj-ud-Din said the students should enthusiastically participate in planting the saplings for the preservation of the environment and also for developing the scenic beauty of the upcoming campus. Highlighting the importance of trees in the contemporary world, Prof Mehraj-ud-Din underscored the need of organizing more such drives in the campus in near future.
CUK Registrar, Prof Muhammad Afzal Zargar, hailed the students for attending the drive despite inclement weather conditions. He said the University was planning to shift some teaching departments to the designated campus. “By shifting to the Ganderbal campus we will not only realize the dream of the founder Vice-Chancellor of CUK, Prof. Abdul Wahid, but will also fulfill the aspirations of the incumbent VC, Prof Mehraj-ud-Din,” Prof Zargar added. He said the work on the construction of the pre-fabricated structures and the Phase-I of the Master Plan will start very soon and in the later session of the year, full bloom academic activities are being contemplated to be initiated from the Ganderbal campus itself.
Finance Officer, Dr. Irshad Ahmad Jan, seconded the remarks made by the Registrar regarding shifting of some of academic activity to Ganderbal campus. He asked the students to actively participate in the drives aiming at the development of the campus.
Controller of Examination, Dr. N A Gilkar, said the students, other than doing the routine classwork, should also participate in the out of the class exercises. “Kashmir is called the paradise on earth and we must ensure that its environs remain always beautiful,” Dr. Gilkar said.
Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Nika, In Charge Officer Students Welfare, highlighted the achievements made by the Department associated with the Students Welfare and said the purpose of today’s event was to discharge academic social responsibility of the University towards environment protection and also sensitizing the students about their role as responsible citizens.
Later the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Finance Officer, Controller of Examination, other functionaries of the varsity and students planted saplings.
