MHRD Secy reviews CUK functioning
Srinagar, Jan 31: Secretary, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Department of Higher Education, Shri Ashok Thakur on Thursday reviewed the functioning of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) at its Transit Campus in Sonwar here.
Due to the indisposition of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdul Wahid, senior faculty member and Dean School of Legal Studies, Prof. Me’raj-ud-Din interacted with the visiting dignitary. Prof. Muhammad Afzal Zargar, Registrar and other senior administrators of the University were also present during the interaction. A detailed presentation about the recent progress made by the University on the fronts of academics, admission process, and recruitment of non-teaching and teaching staff, examination and the development of the campus at Ganderbal was jointly presented by the Dean School of Legal Studies and the Registrar of the University. Shri Thakur was also briefed about the possibility of starting the construction process at Ganderbal in next few months after the necessary finalization of the Master Plan of the campus and inking of agreement between the architect, PMC and the University is completed in the second week of February.
While interacting with the participants, MHRD Secretary highlighted the new impetus made in the field of Higher Education in the recent past with due focus in the 12th Five-Year Plan (2012-2017), towards quality and excellence in Higher Education. Emphasizing that the focus is to be made to promote quality in the faculty development programmes/engagement, he said the teacher training programmes are required to be strengthened and promoted to meet global challenges.
During the deliberations, he emphasized upon the need for motivating the students to work hard and smart in order to be ready to face the challenges posed by the global competitive environment. He lauded the CUK authorities for attaining accomplishments in academics over a brief period of time and pledged continual support to make it a knowledge centre of high repute.
