CUK, Physical Edu College Gbl celebrate Intl Yoga Day
Srinagar, June 21: The Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW) Central University of Kashmir (CUK) in collaboration with Government College of Physical Education, Ganderbal, celebrated International Yoga Day at varsity’s Nowgam Academic block on Sunday.

The student representatives of both the institutions performed different Yoga Asnas shown by the trainer, Mr. Irfan Hussain from the Government College of Physical Education Ganderbal.

                                        

CUK officiating Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj uddin, Government College of Physical Education, Principal, Dr. Hartej Singh, DSW Director, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka and faculty members of both the institutions were among others present on the occasion.

Addressing the students, Prof. Mehraj uddin, said that physical education is part of life. “Without physical exercise, an individual can’t have sound body and mind,” Prof. Mehraj uddin remarked after witnessing the Yoga Asnas done by the students. He said that physical exercise was must for the holistic growth and development of the mind and the body. CUK VC thanked Dr. Hartej Singh for extending the support in holding the programme and expressed willingness to sign Memorandum of Understanding with the educational institution for future endeavours.

Dr. Hartej Singh while speaking on the occasion highlighted the benefits of Yoga during a Power Point Presentation. “The benefits of Yoga includes, weight loss, stress relief, inner peace, improved immunity, living with greater awareness, increased energy, better flexibility & posture and better intuition,” he said adding that Yoga is a continuous process and the deeper one moves into yoga practice, the more profound are its benefits.

DSW Director, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka in his welcome address discussed the importance of performing yoga in order to strengthen the individual physical and mental capacities and capabilities. He asked the students to develop a habit of exercising frequently.

Sports Coordinator and Assistant Prof. Economics, Mr. Tasleem Arif Cash, Assistant Professors, Mr. Anil Kumar and Dr. John K Babu, and Dr. Mushtaq Azad from Government College of Physical Education, Ganderbal, also spoke on the occasion.

 Later Prof. Mehraj uddin distributed participation certificates among the students.
