Department of IT culminates of 5-day Tech Festival


Ganderbal, Dec 23: Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah Thursday said the modern teaching-learning has to be practical oriented rather than confined to classroom set up.

“In the New Education Policy, more emphasis has been laid on the augmentation and implementation of practical teaching learning, creating different situations for students and asking them to resolve the same,” Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah said in his valedictory address on the culmination of 5-day Tech Festival organized by the Department of Information and CodeSquad; a student’s club of School of Engineering and Technology at Tulmulla campus here. CUK VC said the varsity has been previously sending students for participation in the fests organised by other universities and higher educational institutions across the country wherein they have brought laurels to the CUK. “I hope that other departments would organise such fests in near future to provide a platform to the students to showcase their hidden talent,” Prof. Farooq Shah added.

Former Vice Chancellor, CUK, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir who was the chief guest on the occasion, congratulated the Department for holding the technology fest.  Addressing the participants, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said “It is a great initiative to organize such an event, but what is required is strong execution and leadership to transform the ideas generated during the event into something meaningful that benefits the society.” He asked the participants to ensure that any idea they may pursue in the field of Technology, the principles of Sustainable Development and social integration should always be kept at the forefront. 

Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar in his speech, said the technology has become a buzzword, particularly after the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, which forced the professionals to work from home. “The smart phones became the new classroom for students and online lectures and tutorials were the order of the day,” he said, adding the technology has revolutionized the education sector and has made it more interactive.

Later the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq A Shah and former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir distributed certificates and mementos among the winners.

Speaking on the occasion, Dean, SoET, Dr. Mohammad Ahsan Chishti apprised the participants about the proceedings of the TechFest and said “the event has been a huge success as more than 300 students, representing all the university departments, registered for it.” Dr. Ahsan said the department was contemplating to organise another Techfest in future wherein students from across the country would be invited.

In his welcome address, Coordinator, IT department, Er. Afaq Alam gave comprehensive details about the festival and said that in the event Competitive programming, the first prize was won by Mr. Irfan Mehraj Wani, in debugging the first prize was won by Mr. Mateen Alam, in innovative ideas, the first prize was bagged by Ms. Sidrat Shafiq Khan, in Mock interviews, the top slot was bagged by Ms. Rizwa Altaf and e-sports, the first prize was bagged by BTB squad.

Controller of Examinations Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, Prof. A.M. Wani, faculty members, and senior functionaries of the university were also present on the occasion.

 

Student of Tech CSE and member of codesquad Ms. Anna Firdous Shah conducted the event proceedings and Mr. Aaqid Masoodi, student of B.Tech CSE and  member codesquad presented the vote of thanks. Other Codesquad members, including Mr. Abid Farooq Sheikh, Mr. Raqib Bashir and Mr. Gurdeep Singh played a pivotal role in organising the event.
