CUK’s DCJ holds puppetry show


Ganderbal, Mar 22: A puppetry show programme was organized in the Department of Convergent Journalism (DCJ) Central University of Kashmir (CUK) here.

Coordinated by Sr Asst Prof. Dr John Babu Koyye, the programme was organized as part of the academic curriculum of the subject Media History and Development. The student participants were divided into five groups and each presented the show on the themes related to social issues highlighting “unemployment, dowry as a social evil, child trafficking, drug menace, and media convergence” in Kashmiri Urdu and English. 

Dr. John said, “Traditional media puppetry is the ancient form of storytelling technique mostly used for highlighting local problems and disseminating development messages. Now it has been converging with electronic and new media”.

Senior Prof. Mr. Nasir Mirza, who attended the programme as an observer, said, “Puppets are characters that represent someone in real life. They make the audience aware about things and issues by narrating stories.”

 

Head DCJ, Dr. Arif Nazir, congratulated the organizer and the participants involved in the exercise and highlighted the role of traditional media in spreading social awareness in society. Asst Prof. Dr. Nookaraju, Dr. Aktar, Mr. Mudawar, Research scholars and department staff also attended the programme.
