Deptt of Convergent Journalism holds students’ photo exhibition
Srinagar, May 13: The Department of Convergent Journalism, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today organized a students’ photo exhibition where 20 best photographs on various themes taken by the students of both the batches were showcased.
The officiating Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mehraj-ud-Din along with Mr. Arshad Hussain Kaloo, Senior Associate Editor English Daily Greater Kashmir, and Mr. Habib Naqash, Senior Photographer of Greater Kashmir were present on the occasion.
During the interactive session with the students, Professor Mehraj-ud-Din emphasised the role of constructive journalism in society. He also assured the faculty and the students that adequate resources will be provided to the department.
While interacting with the students Mr. Arshad Hussain Kaloo discussed various challenges and opportunities of working as a journalist in Kashmir. He also advised the students to be determined and focused if they want to excel in this field. Replying to a question, he said Greater Kashmir gives equal space to female journalists. He further added his organization is open to interaction with media departments including a programme of internships for the students of the Department of Convergent Journalism, Central University of Kashmir.
Mr. Habib Naqash appreciated the work showcased by the students and encouraged them to work on newsworthy issues besides taking aesthetic and technically challenging photographs.
Mr. Shahnaz Bashir, Coordinator of the department said that the department is striving to restructure the course in such a way that most of the curriculum is specialisation-based so as to cater to the industry demands.
Mr. Asif Khan, assistant professor, said that since journalism is a professional course, it should be given special treatment as far as human resource, financial, administrative and technical support is concerned.
All the students and faculty members of the department were present on the occasion.
