Srinagar, Mar 2: The faculty and non-teaching staff of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) on Saturday accorded a warm send off to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdul Wahid on the completion of his term in office.
CUK Registrar, Prof. Muhammad Afzal Zargar, Dean School of Legal Studies, Prof. Me’raj-ud-Din Mir, Deans of various schools, Finance Officer, Controller of Examinations, Heads of various departments, other faculty members and administrative staff were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Me’raj-ud-Din described Prof. Abdul Wahid as a man of conviction, integrity and repute. “After being appointed as the first VC of the newly established and erstwhile Central University of Jammu and Kashmir in 2009, Prof. started operating from his residence. Later, after being rechristened as Central University of Kashmir, Prof. Wahid worked tirelessly to ensure that University start operating its academic and administrative functions in full gear even from rented premises. Hailing his personal involvement in the recruitment of quality teaching and non-teaching staff , Prof. Me'raj spoke at length about various other contributions made by Prof Wahid towards the academic scenario of the state.
CUK Registrar, Prof. Muhammad Afzal Zargar, termed Prof. Abdul Wahid as a man of highest integrity with a great vision and dedication. “The university under the command of Prof Wahid has progressed well in the field of academics and this would prove as a great asset to the state education sector in near future, said Prof Zargar. He further said that as a mark of a good administrator, Prof Wahid made quality recruitments in the Central University to ensure a sure good future for the university to grow and serve the society better. Prof Zargar also highlighted the employee friendly and humble nature of Prof Wahid.
CUK Finance Officer, Dr. Irshad Ahmad Jan, while speaking on the occasion described the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdul Wahid as a humble human being who never succumbed to any pressure and delivered without any prejudice. Dean School of Languages, Prof. Muhammad Aslam, Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. Abdul Gani, Head, Department of Tourism Studies, Prof S Fayyaz, Associate Professor, Dr. Fayyaz A Nikka, Assistant Registrar, Dr. Javed Wani, Section Officer, Mr. Imitiyaz, also hailed the contribution of Prof Wahid in the establishment of CUK.
Addressing the faculty and non-teaching staff, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, thanked all for their support and cooperation in starting the University operations. Prof Abdul Wahid said that setting up of a university is a difficult task than heading an already established institution of higher learning. “However, the satisfaction about being the founder of the University and working for its establishment is something different,” Prof. Abdul Wahid said. He said that during these years, all the employees extended their fullest support and cooperation in starting the academic programmes from the rented accommodations. “The University is growing and functioning in a good way when compared to the Central Universities established along with it,” he said adding “The University will take some time to develop fully, but the fact is that it will become an institution of repute in near future and will cater to the growing needs of students intending to go for higher learning.”
The outgoing Vice-Chancellor asked the employees to work with sincerity and honesty for the development of the institution and wished them best of luck in their future endeavours.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor distributed merit scholarship among 44 students who topped the Central Universities Common Entrance Test CUCET-2013 and the examination of post-graduate programmes conducted by the University.
