CM reviews work on establishment of CUK
Ganderbal, June 1: Honorable Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Mufti Muhammad Sayeed today visited the designated campus of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) here and took stock of the ongoing work regarding establishment of the varsity.

Minister for Education, Mr. Syed Nayeem Akhter Andrabi, CUK officiating Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj uddin Mir, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Samoon, MLA Ganderbal, Mr. Ishfaq Jabbar, MLC, Mr. Yasir Reshi, PDP leader, Mr. Qazi Muhammad Afzal, CUK Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Controller of Examinations, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, Deans of several Schools, Heads and Coordinators of various Departments, senior police and administrative officials were present on the occasion.


Chief Minister appreciated the University authorities for introducing Science subjects in the varsity and also hailed them for conducting the examination on time despite being heavily affected during floods in September last year. The Chief Minister also reiterated that the University would not be shifted from Ganderbal. “We won’t relocate the University,” Mufti Muhammad Sayeed asserted while addressing the gathering, adding that the problems confronting the construction work of the University and allotment of additional land would be given priority. Mufti Muhammad Sayeed assured full support from his government for setting up of the University at Ganderbal.

He asked the University to introduce skill development courses to hone the skills of the local populace.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Mehraj uddin highlighted the issues faced by the executing agencies in constructing the Pre Engineered Buildings at the designated site. He said the University was currently functioning from rented accommodation in the City. “The students and staff are suffering immensely as the University is scattered,” Prof. Mehraj uddin said, adding the main impediment in the ongoing construction of the University at Ganderbal was the poor quality of land.

Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, gave a detailed presentation about the functioning of the University and the activities done by different departments. He gave a brief resume about the number of programmes offered by the University and the facilities offered to the students.
