16th EC of CUK held
Several decisions about academics, infra built up taken
Srinagar, Dec 27: The 16th Meeting of the Executive Council (EC) of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) was held today at Nowgam-II block of the varsity with Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din in chair.
The meeting was among others attended by former Vice-Chancellor Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Prof. Siddiq Wahid, Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, Prof. Maithili Sharan, former JKPSC Member, Mr. M M Bhat, Dean School of Languages, CUK, Prof. Mohammad Aslam, Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. Abdul Gani, Dean School of Media Studies and Head Department of Tourism Studies, Prof. S Fayyaz, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar and Controller of Examinations/I/c Finance Officer, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, gave a detailed account about the academic activities conducted by the varsity and the seminars, workshops, guest lectures and other events organised by various teaching departments, Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW) and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) from time to time. He said the University has nominated Prof. Muhammad Aslam, Dean School of Languages as Director Research and Development.
Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir revealed that the work on the Pre Engineering Buildings at varsity’s permanent campus at Ganderbal was going on at brisk pace and the pile work was almost complete, adding that two more additional PEB blocks would be constructed, for which the approval has already been sought from Statutory Committees. He said the University will very soon shift the academic activities to the designated campus.
He informed the EC members about the newly launched integrated programmes in Science and Masters programme in comparative religion and prospective launching of B. Voc programmes in Management and Tourism Studies on Retail and Hospitality Management and Tourism and Hospitality Management. The admission to B. Voc programmes shall be initiated soon. He said the University is continuously monitoring the progress of all the departments.
Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar while addressing the members said, the university is marching ahead in academics and infrastructure building. He said the capping on piles for raising the PEB structures at Ganderbal has also begun. Prof. Zargar apprised the members about various measures being taken by the university regarding up gradation of facilities.
Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir was felicitated by the EC members for being confirmed as the Vice-Chancellor of CUK. The Vice-Chancellor also thanked all the members of the Council who are likely to complete their term by the end of this year for their valuable contribution in the overall development of the university.
The EC later took several decisions about the academic and administrative affairs of the University. Controller of Examinations/I/c Finance Officer, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, presented the vote of thanks.
