CUK’s EEW holds 7th Post ESE workshop:


Ganderbal, Dec 19: The Examination and Evaluation Wing (EEW) of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Thursday organised the 7th Post End Semester Examination (ESE) workshop on “Assessment Examination Evaluation: Quality Concerns” at Green Campus of the varsity here.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Controller of Examinations, Prof. Parveen Pandit, Controller of Examination, SK University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-K), Dr. Sarfaraz A Wani, Deans, Head and Coordinators of various departments and senior functionaries of the university were present on the occasion.

Addressing the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said, that these ESE workshops have been extremely helpful in clearing the doubts of the faculty members and examination staff vis-à-vis, conduct of examination, assessment and evaluation and setting of question papers. He said the workshop provides a platform to all those involved in the examination and evaluation process to discuss the issues confronting them and come up with the suitable measures for the same. He said the decisions taken during such workshops should be implemented in letter and spirit in order for the benefit of the students appearing in various examinations. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir further said that students, alumni and other associated stakeholders are always involved in the decision making process to make it more inclusive. CUK Vice-Chancellor, said, the university is creating some of the best practices and holding ESE workshop is one among them. Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir hailed the examination wing for conducting all the examinations on time and declaring the results within the stipulated time. He further asked the faculty members to come forward and aware the students about Massive Online Open Course (MOOCs) so that they would take up the programmes and then appear in the examination subsequently.   

Speaking on the occasion, Controller of Examinations, Prof. Parveen Pandit said, that the practice of holding the ESE workshop is unique to the Central University of Kashmir. She said the theme of the workshop has been chosen in accordance with the working of the university on quality parameters, with excellence as its vision. Prof. Pandit said the workshop gives a good opportunity to all the faculty members, irrespective of their positions, to pool the ideas and subsequently work upon them for further improving the examination and evaluations standards of the varsity. She said the university students, both admitted and graduates, and research scholars who are the main stakeholders have been made part of this year’s workshop to get firsthand experience from them about the examination and evaluation system of the university. “They have better understanding of the present system and can share their ideas for further improving the standards of the examination and evaluation system,” Prof. Pandit said. She said the objective of the examination is to assess the students in totality, both qualitatively and quantitatively, adding the workshop would further deliberate upon the strength and weakness of the present examination system of the university.    

Coordinator, Department of IT, Er. Afaq Alam conducted the inaugural event while as Assistant Registrar EEW, Mr. Faisal Irshad proposed the vote of thanks.  

The inaugural was followed by technical sessions in which faculty members worked in three groups, prepared recommendations and made presentations. The valedictory session was held which was also chaired by Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir.
