CUK’s DSW, JKEDI holds boot camp:

Ganderbal, Apr 29: The Department of Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) organised a one-day entrepreneurship boot camp at varsity’s Green Campus, here on Monday.

The objective of the event was to inculcate entrepreneurship culture among the youth and to nurture and inspire the young and entrepreneurial brains to pursue innovation and entrepreneurship by creating vibrant and conducive start-ups. The event also aimed at pitching ideas under the JK start up campaign.

Director Research and Development, Prof. Abdul Gani, underscored the need to bridge the gap between academics and industry so that the higher educational institutions including the universities are able to produce professionals and technically sound work force. “Those graduating from institutions should have field knowledge in addition to the classroom learning,” Prof. Gani said, adding

Registrar, Prof. Fayaz Ahmed Nikka, said such kind of brain storming idea generation events should be organised frequently in order to curb the already prevailing unemployment in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that it is very important to create a conducive student-start up ecosystem in every educational institution. Prof. Nikka said the CUK has already established a Design Innovation Centre (DIC) which is imparting skill based training to the youth, adding that there is a need to create a target group of start-ups and work on those groups, facilitating them in the implementation stage of their innovative ideas.

Department of Convergent Journalism, Coordinator, Dr. John. K. Babu conducted the programme proceedings and deliberated upon the need to organize such boot camps.

Dean DSW, Dr. Zahoor Geelani, stressed upon the importance of ideas in the contemporary world and talked about how ideas have become the new currency in 21st century.

Mr. Sajjad Hussain from JKEDI, elaborated about the Institute’s start up policy and presented a detailed account of work, the institute is doing with young entrepreneurs of the State and how they can provide support to young innovators through various schemes.
